4CAN NOT BE USED as alternative for USB flash drive if you are using an SD card  Mar 09, 2006 By atwi_confidence
Like one user said earlier, THE SD card slot is on the side, and MOST of the SD card will stick out when you plug it in.

so You can NOT just plug the SD card, and leave it there, and use this card reader as usb flash drive, IT WONT WORK. (u can not carry it out with you with the SD card sitcking on the side).

However, using it as card reader (which is how it is intended to be used), it works perfect for me. I use it with my Patriot 2G 133X SD card, and it works flawlessly.

4Works well  Mar 14, 2005 By Jeremy Aker
This thing works great. It reads and writes quickly to SD cards. I had some trouble getting a Windows XP and Mac OS X computers to write to my SD card (kept complaining about being write-protected), but this was resolved by inserting the SD card not quite all the way. I have not tried the MobileMate with a Multimedia card. My major complaint is that the cover for the card slots is not permanently attached. If one attempts to swing it out of the way to insert a card, it falls off. A drop of Super Glue was a quick and permantent fix. Another complaint is that this tiny thing is power hungry. It must be attached directly into a computer's USB port. It over powers any USB hub - even the USB hub in a Mac keyboard.

4Works like a dream and a great price!!  Mar 20, 2006 By J. Wellborn "Computer Nerd"
Can't go wrong with this one. It reads MiniSD cards without using the adapter. Previous reviews are correct to say that it can't be used as a jump/flash drive with the card inserted as the card makes it stick out like a sore thumb.

I bought this in conjunction with a 1gb MiniSD for my Verizon Wireless LG9800 cell phone and I use it to watch videos and listen to mp3's. It's as quick as using the phone's internal memory. Used a 'regular' SD card that I use for my camera and PDA, and it's nearly as fast as moving files to and from another hard drive. Using this reader is faster than using each device directly to transfer files!

It comes with a handy 6" USB cable that lets you fit the adapter into tight spots. The whole end of the device lights up when it's plugged into your computer. I'm very satisfied with the performance of this item!

3Mediocre product, but gets the job done.  Oct 10, 2006 By Kevin Nicholls "jaded, aging hipster"
I bought this a few weeks ago to transfer things between my SD cards, Treo 650, and MacBook Pro. I found out recently that it also fits in the front USB ports on my Xbox 360, so that's kind of cool too.

It works pretty well, though the rubber slot protector is pretty worthless. I'm sure it will fall off in the near future, from keeping this reader in my pocket.

Sure, it has some design flaws (as others have already pointed out), but it does what it's supposed to do. For what it costs, though, it isn't any better or worse than other items in the same price range.

2Falls short  Dec 07, 2005 By Karl J. Knippel "Gadget Crazy"
Elegant design, poor execution. I like the form factor of this multi-flash reader, and the fact that they included two caps, one with a connection for a strap. However, it falls short because of trouble writing to SD cards. Since day 1, it has intermittently given me some trouble. It normally refuses to write to a non-write-protected SD card if the card is seated all the way in. I have to wiggle it out a half millimeter or so to make it work. Have had no problem with my 16MB and 32MB MMC cards, but I only use them when I need to transfer data and this reader is refusing to work properly. Have had no problems with a new Mini-SD card. I have not tried it with RS-MMC or TransFlash.
